New details have come to light following the shocking announcement on Sunday morning that R-Truth has been released from WWE.

For those who missed the initial report, longtime WWE veteran R-Truth — real name Ron Killings — was informed over the weekend that his contract with the company will not be renewed. A representative from WWE’s talent relations department reportedly contacted him directly to deliver the news. While the exact expiration date of his contract remains unknown, it’s said to be approaching soon.

Fightful Select is reporting that those close to the situation confirm that Killings was told the decision had nothing to do with misconduct or backstage issues. In fact, WWE made it clear that he had done nothing wrong. The release came as a surprise to many, including R-Truth himself, who was widely considered a “WWE lifer.” In the aftermath, several WWE Superstars reached out to express their confusion and concern.

The reaction backstage has been overwhelmingly negative. One top WWE star reportedly described the move as “total nonsense,” while another labeled the company’s leadership “ruthless.” According to insiders, the backlash over Truth’s release is among the strongest the company has faced in recent memory. Killings is deeply respected across the locker room, and it’s rare to hear a negative word about him from anyone in the industry.

Adding to the confusion is the fact that R-Truth remains a strong merchandise seller. His “Ron Cena” T-shirt — launched in the build-up to his May 24 WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event match with John Cena — was among WWE’s top-selling items in recent weeks.

Outside of WWE, Killings is no stranger to success. He previously competed as Ron “The Truth” Killings in both TNA Wrestling and the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA), where he built a strong following. One notable asset he brings to future ventures is his self-produced entrance music from his TNA days, which sources believe he still owns the rights to — potentially allowing him to use it again outside WWE.

Independent wrestling promotions have already begun expressing interest, reaching out to inquire about booking opportunities and future availability. While WWE has not confirmed when his deal officially ends, it appears his time with the company is nearly up.
