Backstage Update On Bryan Danielson’s AEW Status & Future

Bryan Danielson has been very open about the status of his neck as he makes the media rounds heading into Sunday’s AEW All In: London 2024 pay-per-view event. He’s continued to say that he’ll likely need surgery before the end of the year.

According to a report from Fightful Select, Danielson’s recent comments about his doctors not wanting him to wrestle before All In were “mostly true.” With that being said, the American Dragon was approved to wrestle at All In and in a match against Jeff Jarrett on a recent edition of AEW Dynamite. He was not cleared to take part in Blood & Guts, and didn’t do so. AEW officials have been working under the belief that Danielson would not be available as often as he had been in the past.

It is said that Danielson’s run heading into All In 2024 has been planned since the Spring. For the past three weeks, he’s been working without a contract. His previous contract expired on August 1. Despite his contract expiring, Danielson continues to work as part of the creative team and on the disciplinary committee. These roles come under the terms of his talent deal. It is believed that AEW will attempt to get him under some sort of working agreement once this run is over.

Finally, it was added that Tony Khan trusts Danielson and his ability to be honest and open about situations like these. Many within the company expect Danielson to remain with AEW in some form. Danielson has previously said that he’d only return to WWE if he felt he was needed. As of this writing, WWE has not reached out.
