Welcome to another eWrestlingNews Question of the Day!
On this day in wrestling history, 20 years ago at SummerSlam 2004, Randy Orton defeated Chris Benoit to become the youngest world champion in WWE history at age 24.
That record stands today and will seemingly stay untouched for the foreseeable future. After all, I believe only Brooks Jensen and Je’Von Evans are younger, and both are firmly still in NXT.
But while the full record won’t be eclipsed, there are still plenty extremely talented WWE Superstars around that age (roughly an average of 27-years-old) who could logically become a world champion sometime in the near future.
My question for you today is “Who is the youngest person on the current WWE roster who you think will become world champion next?” Essentially, is it more likely for a 29-year-old like Carmelo Hayes to capture one of the two world titles, or will someone like Trick Williams (28) get there first?
Remember to answer with your response in the comments below.
As far as my answer…
I think the most obvious choice has to be Bron Breakker, to the point that I’d be surprised if there are many other options people are even considering.
Yes, Hayes and Williams are great. Dragon Lee is only 29, Dominik Mysterio is 27, as are Tyler Bate and a few others, but I have a hard time believing they’ll get to the mountain top quicker than Breakker.
Logan Paul could give him a run for his money, but he’s 29, and I think the United States Championship was the one and only true title reign experiment WWE will be willing to do with Paul. Maybe he’ll win a tag title in the future, but I don’t think they’ll ever entrust him to be the top champion of Raw or SmackDown.
Plus, it’s important to note that Breakker is only 26. If I’m correct, he’s the youngest WWE Superstar on the main roster outside of Tiffany Stratton at 25, who obviously doesn’t count in the same capacity for being part of the women’s division and a separate record to what we’re talking about (though for the record, she’s not surpassing Paige’s record, either)
Breakker is already holding the Intercontinental Championship. In all likelihood, he will be carrying that title well into WrestleMania 41 season, if not after that.
We can assume he’ll have a good showing at the Royal Rumble in 2025, but come up short. I doubt WWE is looking to push him that far that fast. But come Royal Rumble 2026, there’s a good chance he could be one of the favorites. Hell, he could win Money in the Bank in 2025 and capture a world title before the year’s over, especially if WWE wants to give a belt to John Cena for a run, as we know those two have a strong possibility of feuding.
Breakker is continually praised by virtually everyone in and out of the business. Legends endorse him as a future world champion. Sami Zayn closed this past episode of Raw to the live audience after it went off air giving Breakker a nod as a future face of the company.
If he doesn’t screw up royally behind the scenes or suffer some unfortunate injury, there’s no reason why his trajectory shouldn’t continue going upward closer to that goal of a world title. Then, it’s just a matter of how many months or years it will take, but I don’t think we’re going to have to wait until he’s 30 for this to be a reality.
My guess is Breakker is going to obtain one of the two world titles—I’m predicting the World Heavyweight Championship more so—by WrestleMania 42 in 2026. That would put him at 28, which I believe would be the 11th youngest world championship win ever, just a month away from cracking the top 10 with Ivan Koloff.
