AEW President Tony Khan opened tonight’s episode of AEW Dynamite with his announcement – and it’s a big one!
During the opening segment of AEW Dynamite, Tony Khan was in the ring with Tony Schiavone and revealed that he had purchased Ring of Honor.
As we reported earlier here on eWn, ROH has been operating as a company and employed some of the same people throughout the hiatus to promote their content. While some of them are under contract until the end of this month, the majority of the talent had their deals expire at the end of 2021. Going forward, there were expected to be some “familiar faces” who would be returning to the company.
Ring of Honor reached out to several potential buyers late last year. People across multiple companies had confirmed that there were overtures regarding a potential sale and/or partnership. In April of 2021, there were some rumors that the ROH tape library was being shopped around but multiple sources said ROH was asking for “much more than the current market dictates.” One source noted at the time that $40 million was discussed as the asking price. Another person said they heard the price was about half of that.
