Despite ROH and AEW being run by the same promoter, Tony Khan wants their respective championships to be kept separate.

AEW President Tony Khan sent shockwaves in March when he announced the purchase of ROH. Since then, many have speculated whether fans could see a hybrid championship emerge soon. However, Khan suggests that may not happen.

During the media scrum for this Saturday’s ROH Death Before Dishonor PPV, Khan revealed that he has no intention of creating any hybrid championships between ROH and AEW. He also stated that if there is to be a traveling championship, he wants the new All-Atlantic Championship to serve that purpose.

“The titles, I think, are going to be kept separate.  I wouldn’t have a hybrid championship or any hybrid championships I think between AEW and Ring of Honor. For example, the AEW All-Atlantic Championship is about that. It has been defended outside the country versus wrestlers outside of AEW and then PAC, or whoever ends up retaining the title in his upcoming defenses, the champion will return to America and defend that title against AEW wrestlers.”

“I also think a lot of the AEW championships have been defended outside in other companies against other wrestlers and we’ve seen championships from outside of AEW defended here.”

Khan didn’t rule out fans seeing ROH title defenses on AEW programming. When discussing inter-promotional title defenses on TV, the AEW President name-checked New Japan and RevPro Wrestling, saying that fans would see those championships defended on AEW television in the future. AEW fans have already seen many NJPW titles defended on a significant PPV at AEW X NJPW: Forbidden Door.
