Former WWE star Zoey Stark (Zoey Serrano now) has been very vocal about the wrestling business following her release. In her recent YouTube video, she addressed a few issues. While answering questions, she was asked, What’s one thing she could change about women’s wrestling? She said,
“I feel like a lot of you are going to think I’m going to say the oversexualization of women’s wrestling. That’s not it. I understand that there is a time and a place for that. I get it. What I feel like should change is the amount of time that women are given to wrestle. It seems like any time that we go out there, our time gets cut without fail.”
“I can’t say 100%, but we’ll say a good 90–95%. We always have more than one plan. We have Plan A, Plan B, and Plan C just to protect ourselves. That way, if we get into the ring and we hear, ‘Hey, you got to go home now’—home meaning get the pin and get to the back—we’ll just jump right to Plan C.”
“Now, I’m not saying it doesn’t happen to the men. For sure it does. It just feels like it happens way more to the women than it does the men. And all of us in the locker room, we always, always, always have different plans to protect ourselves. You know, when you’re only given so much time, you got to make the most of it. And that’s what a lot of us do.”
The Ex-WWE Star On The Biggest Compliment
Serrano also revealed the biggest compliment she ever got. She said,
“So it always comes from men, and they always start off with, ‘I hope you don’t take this the wrong way.’ I’m going to tell you right now, I never do, because then they follow it up with, ‘You wrestle like a dude.’ That, for a female, is the biggest compliment that you could ever receive. And I have received it from some of the best in this business. And I feel like the reason why is women’s wrestling is newer than men’s wrestling, obviously, right?”
“So getting that aggressive, hard-hitting style, you don’t always get that from women. And that’s a style that I happen to have, which emulates the way a man moves. So for me, that is the biggest compliment I could ever receive. Especially growing up watching people like Eddie Guerrero, who’s so aggressive and so hard-hitting with his style, and Stone Cold Steve Austin, I wanted to emulate that as much as possible. So being able to hear that from people like Road Dogg or Coach Bloom means the world to me. It’s the biggest, highest compliment a female could ever receive.”
