WWE just scored a real win in its ongoing streaming lawsuit, and it could slow the entire case down for a while.
A federal court in Connecticut sided with WWE on a new motion, agreeing to pause the discovery process against WWE, ESPN, and BAMTech.
Discovery is the stage where both sides normally must hand over evidence and open up their records to each other. WWE argued that step should wait until the court first decides whether the case gets moved into private arbitration instead of a courtroom trial, and the judge agreed.
Pwinsider is reporting that there is currently no deadline forcing the court to make that arbitration decision anytime soon, meaning the case could sit in limbo for a while.
The lawsuit, filed earlier this year by Michael Diesa and Rebecca Tobak, accuses WWE of misleading fans about how they would actually watch pay-per-view events after shows moved to the ESPN Unlimited tier starting with Wrestlepalooza 2025.
ESPN and BAMTech, both named as defendants, are pushing hard to send the entire dispute to arbitration, while the plaintiffs are asking for a full jury trial instead.
For now, WWE has bought itself extra time before either side has to start sharing evidence.
