Cody Rhodes will be on hand to present the winning team with the trophy for the 2026 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.
The opening round of this year’s tournament kicked off on this week’s episode of WWE NXT on The CW Network. Before the action got underway, three-time Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes appeared in the opening video package.
As the son of the late Dusty Rhodes, Cody spoke about the tournament and revealed that he will be there in person to present the trophy to the eventual winners.
Rhodes is currently part of the SmackDown roster and is involved in a feud with Randy Orton.
Reina Volcan made her presence felt on this week’s episode of WWE NXT.
Kali Armstrong faced Skylar Raye in singles action on the show, but the match took an unexpected turn when referee Dallas Irvin was knocked out of the ring.
With Irvin down and out, Reina Volcan, formerly known as Nikki Blackheart, entered the fray and targeted both Armstrong and Raye.
Raye ultimately managed to throw her arm over Armstrong, allowing Irvin to recover and return to the ring. The referee then counted the pinfall, giving Raye the victory.
Volcan has been competing at NXT live events in recent months, though her last televised match came on July 21. On that occasion, she defeated Raye in singles competition.
Dorian Van Dux is currently sidelined due to an injury.
A six-man tag team match was advertised for this week’s episode of WWE NXT on The CW Network, with Zilla Fatu, Sean Legacy, and Van Dux set to take on BirthRight (Uriah Connors, Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo, and Lexis King).
However, Van Dux’s status for the match came into question during a backstage segment. While speaking with Fatu, Legacy revealed that Van Dux had not been medically cleared to compete after suffering a punctured lung.
Van Dux then appeared and made it clear that he still wanted to compete. Legacy, however, strongly objected, reminding his partner that doctors had instructed him not to wrestle. Legacy explained that he needs Van Dux to be at 100 percent for the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.
Van Dux and Legacy are scheduled to compete in the first round of the tournament, where they will face the Tokyo Bad Boys, Kento and Takuma.
