Questions about drug testing in AEW are growing after Brian Cage discussed his past use of performance-enhancing drugs and Lars Sullivan made a bold accusation against the company.
Cage recently said that he has used PEDs during his career, but he rejected the idea that they alone made him successful in wrestling. He also said that he has been on testosterone replacement therapy for a long time and pushed back against claims that his physique looks heavily enhanced.
Sullivan then claimed on social media that AEW allows its wrestlers to abuse steroids, although he did not provide evidence and Cage did not reveal whether AEW approved or encouraged his use.
During a Fightful Select Q&A, Sean Ross Sapp addressed the matter. He said that nobody he has spoken with from AEW has told him that they were drug tested. Sapp also stated that he knows former AEW staff members who used steroids and other drugs, although attempts to pursue those claims fell apart as people would not attach their names to the allegations.
Sapp added that he has not heard of recent steroid testing in either AEW or TNA Wrestling. However, that does not prove that either company has no testing process.
PED use remains widespread across professional wrestling, with extreme physiques maintained by some wrestlers. It was added that peptides are commonly used.
As of now, AEW has not publicly explained a detailed steroid-testing policy in connection with this debate. Until the company does, the controversy sparked by Cage’s comments and Sullivan’s accusation is likely to continue.
