Report – WWE Considering Darker Cody Rhodes, Not Full Heel Turn

Cody Rhodes switched over to the dark side against Randy Orton at Sunday Night’s Main Event, and that brutal match has fans questioning whether WWE is finally getting ready to turn him heel.

WrestleVotes is reporting that as things stand right now, a full heel turn does not appear to be part of WWE’s actual plans, even though the door has not been completely shut on the idea.

One major reason behind that decision comes down to money, since Rhodes remains extremely popular among fans who buy WWE merchandise, and that kind of consumer data carries real weight inside the company.

The report explained that WWE simply is not willing to risk losing millions of dollars in merchandise sales just to tell a more interesting television story, even if that story might work creatively.

Still, that does not mean Rhodes stays exactly the same going forward, since WWE could reportedly keep exploring a darker, more aggressive side of his character without fully flipping him into a heel.

That direction makes sense after watching what unfolded during his match with Orton, which spiraled into a violent brawl involving Cody’s own family and left Orton bleeding badly. Rhodes smashed him with steel steps, threw repeated punches, and hit two Cross Rhodes before Orton begged him to stop, only for The Apex Predator to sneak in a low blow and steal the win with an RKO.
