Kendal Grey is not currently cleared to compete after suffering an ear injury in her NXT Underground match last week against Lola Vice, but as a fighting champion who just retained her title, she’s already booked her next NXT Women’s Championship defense.
On tonight’s episode of WWE NXT, Kali Armstrong cut a promo in the ring about how she wants a shot at Grey. Almost immediately, she was interrupted by Kelani Jordan, who has been complaining for months about how she never gets a fair title opportunity. Since Jordan had Armstrong pinned in their No. 1 contender’s Triple Threat match three weeks ago (had the referee noticed), Jordan saw that as putting her at the front of the line, not Armstrong.
Grey came out with Wren Sinclair by her side, as well as a contract in her hands, having spoken to Robert Stone to draft up a deal for Jordan to pick whenever she wants a shot.
Since Grey could not compete right then and there, Jordan decided she wants the biggest stage she can get, so she opted for NXT Heatwave, rather than to “waste” her match on the Orlando crowd.
This led to a quick scrap with Jordan and Armstrong taking out Grey and Sinclair, likely to set up a tag team match down the road. Something else in limbo right now is who Tony D’Angelo will defend the men’s NXT Championship against, as Cruz Montana vs. Grayson Waller has yet to happen as of this publication.
For now, Jordan versus Grey for the NXT Women’s Championship is the only match locked in for Heatwave, going down August 30, 2026. Stay tuned for updates on the card as they’re announced.
