Who Should Join The Don Callis Family? | Question Of The Day

Welcome to another eWrestlingNews Question of the Day!

As reported, Don Callis mentioned on AEW Dynamite that he’s looking to recruit new members to the faction. Between injuries to Brian Cage and Mark Davis, as well as seemingly Lance Archer being on the outs for having lost to Brody King, the stable is getting a shakeup, and he’s accepting applications from people who wish to join.

My question for you today is “Who do you think should join The Don Callis Family?”

Remember to answer with your response in the comments below.

As far as my answer…

First off, let me say that I’m glad this is happening. One thing AEW does better than WWE is adjust faction members on the fly. The Don Callis Family reads to me more like The Heenan Family, and I always liked that, rather than how WWE tends to be more rigid. Look at how The Judgment Day can’t even add a new member without going through so many hoops and in-fighting.

Whoever joins The Don Callis Family should bring something to the table that the group is missing, as well as be someone who can benefit from it. There’s no need to recruit someone like The Butcher who wouldn’t fit the aesthetic or be utilized well, nor someone like The Beast Mortos, who is involved in other teams.

Truth be told, I don’t think anyone on the current AEW roster fits the bill. Too many people who are directionless don’t seem like fits in my mind. For instance, we haven’t seen Scorpio Sky in forever, nor Ortiz, but could you really picture them in this stable? I can’t. Someone like Kevin Knight just stands on the same ground as Kyle Fletcher and Konosuke Takeshita, and you don’t need three guys of similar positioning fighting for the same attention.

While I’d more so rather see both of them in WWE, as opposed to AEW, if Tony Khan is able to sign them, I think Hammerstone and Jeff Cobb are the right answers.

Both are big dudes who can fulfill the powerhouse dynamic that is going to be missing without Cage, Archer, and Davis. They have totally different presentations compared to Fletcher and Takeshita, and if they were to join AEW right this very moment, they’d be wandering trying to find a spot. This immediately puts them in a prominent group where they’ll be wrestling on a frequent basis, and allows them the opportunity to build up more notoriety with the fans who may not be quite familiar with them.

Someone else I’d toss out there is Bishop Dyer (formerly known as Baron Corbin). He’s always gotten a ton of hate, but I’ve always been an advocate that he was a damn good heel and better than he got credit for. Now, I’m not saying sign him up and immediately put the world title on him, but I think he would be a great fit underneath Callis as another tall jerk to back up the rest of the team.

Is there some love out there for Dijak? The guy can work and was always overlooked. I’d like to see him get a run in AEW. Maybe Von Wagner? We did see him pop up as a security team person recently.

AOP’s Akam and Rezar could work, but my fear with The Authors of Pain is that they’ll be immediately chewed up and spit out as just the same presentation as they’ve always been. Maybe they’d go with the Legion of Pain name that they had used in 2022, and that’s all fine, but what’s to separate them from The Gates of Agony or The Murder Machines?

What do you think? Drop your thoughts below!
