Who Should Be The Wild Card AEW’s Dynasty International Title Eliminator Tournament? | Question Of The Day

Welcome to another eWrestlingNews Question of the Day!

An eliminator tournament will begin on tonight’s episode of AEW Dynamite to determine who faces Kenny Omega for the International Championship at AEW Dynasty.

Currently announced for this bracket will be Orange Cassidy vs. Hechicero, a wild card against The Beast Mortos, Katsuyori Shibata against Ricochet, and Mark Briscoe against Mark Davis, with the latter two matches taking place on Collision.

My question for you today is “Who are you hoping will be the wild card who faces The Beast Mortos and how do you think this tournament will play out?”

Remember to answer with your response in the comments below.

As far as my answer…

Admittedly, most of the time there’s been a wild card in AEW, it’s been a let down. At least, from my perspective, there’s always potential for major names to make their debut or for a huge return to happen, and more often than not, it ends up being someone who is there for a guest spot, makes barely a splash, and then leaves. Those people are often on the lower end of the spectrum, too, or they’re from other companies where an outsider like me who doesn’t watch something like AAA have no context for them and can’t get connected to them, particularly if they lose.

The cynic in me thinks that’s going to be the case again, and Tony Khan is putting up the wild card scenario because he hopes that the unknown mystery element of it will be a bigger draw than the person he has lined up. That is, of course, if he even does have someone set in stone. There’s always a chance with travel issues or revolving plans that nobody is scheduled yet, and that’s why this isn’t being announced in advance.

If it’s just someone like The Blade, then I’m sure everyone will be upset, not just me.

However, I’m hoping this is the debut of either “Speedball” Mike Bailey or Josh Alexander. Between the two, I think Alexander makes for a more impactful debut in the grand scheme of things, but that Speedball could wow new audiences more on his initial match. If it were to be either of them, I’m certainly going to hope they beat The Beast Mortos, even though I think Mortos loses more matches than he should and I’d rather see someone else take the fall than him.

For the rest of the tournament, I think we’re looking at Ricochet coming out on top to fight Kenny Omega. I’m more interested in that match than any others, and I think Ricochet not only would provide a great challenger for Omega, but I’d like to see him keep this momentum going from his heel turn. He just lost to Swerve Strickland, so let’s give him a win to offset that.
