Where Should WWE’s Latest Batch Of Releases Go Next? | Question Of The Day

Welcome to another eWrestlingNews Question of the Day!

Last night, we found out that WWE had released not just Duke Hudson the other day, but also Cedric Alexander, Paul Ellering, Akam, Rezar, Blair Davenport, and Sonya Deville.

My question for you today is “Where would you like to see them go next? Which company/companies do you want them to sign with?”

As far as my answer…

Predictions are different than hopes, so I’ll put them out there separately.

When it comes to where I think they’ll go, I’m expecting Ellering to either accompany AOP or just retire outright, AOP likely won’t start their own Wrestling Entertainment Series thing again and will end up wrestling on the indies, Hudson and Davenport will probably go back to the indies as well (possibly with Hudson landing in MLW), Cedric Alexander to AEW (we’ll talk about that below), and Deville could very well decide to step away from wrestling. Then again, I don’t know any of them personally, so that’s as much of a shot in the dark prediction across the board as you can get.

Now as far as what I’d like to see, let’s backtrack. I want to see Deville be the top of a division somewhere. She’s been around long enough that I think it would be nice for her. The only place I can picture that can realistically happen would be if she went to TNA, which presents an interesting idea, because if they’re partnered with WWE, does that mean we might end up seeing her actually pop up in NXT in the future, a la Zachary Wentz? AEW could certainly use her, so I’d like for them to pick her up, but I just get a feeling that’s not going to happen.

Hudson is also someone I think would more likely succeed in TNA than anywhere else. If he appears for AEW in any way, I think it would be as part of ROH, and I don’t think he’ll become a champion there. TNA could have him be in the mix for the Digital Media Championship or something in a heartbeat. Again, it’d be interesting to see if WWE would do anything with a crossover.

I haven’t watched NWA in God knows how long, but maybe that’s where they could succeed the best. Ellering would fit in there, obviously.

Davenport was part of AEW and should have some ties there. I don’t think if she does go there that she’ll end up holding a championship anytime soon, though. Maybe it’s worth going to New Japan STRONG or something? I don’t personally watch that, but I could see Davenport making a bigger splash in Marigold or STARDOM or any of those kinds of promotions.

The one thing I want for certain is to see Cedric Alexander in AEW. Just pair him up with The Hurt Syndicate and start booking matches. Alexander could have an amazing in-ring performance with Will Ospreay, Kazuchika Okada, Darby Allin, and so many others. Book it and I’ll watch it. He’s great and he’s always been overlooked.

It sucks to see anyone lose their jobs, but I feel like they all had grown stagnant in their own ways, and there’s a chance this is a blessing in disguise. Hopefully, they all bounce back even better than before.
